Grow your business with LinkedIn

Only 3% Are Doing This on LinkedIn (Here’s Why You Should Too)

Let’s ensure we’re all speaking from the same page – LinkedIn is no longer just a digital resume graveyard. Instead, it’s become a vibrant hub where conversations spark, content flows, and connections are made in real time. If your business isn’t part of that energy? You’re likely leaving growth on the table.

Why LinkedIn Is the Place to Be (Especially Right Now)

If you’re thinking, “why LinkedIn? Why not Instagram or TikTok, or (ugh) X?”

First of all, if your audience is spending time on LinkedIn, it only makes sense that you should be too. It’s like showing up to the party where all your ideal clients are already mingling.  And if your audience is B2B or B2C with salaries and money to burn, they’re on LinkedIn.  The average LinkedIn user makes $75,000 per year, so even if they are hanging out there for professional reasons, your personal appeal to their heart (and wallet) strings could be reached.

Why has LinkedIn grown in popularity in recent years?

  • It’s professional, but not stuffy.
  • People come here to connect, learn, and yes—do business.
  • And most importantly, organic reach is still alive and well (unlike other platforms where algorithms are keeping us from our ideal audience members).

On top of that, LinkedIn’s DMs are refreshingly straightforward. Unlike Instagram, where messages can feel crowded and chaotic, LinkedIn conversations feel natural—the closest thing to email (but shorter…)

The 3% Rule: Where the Magic Happens on LinkedIn

Here’s the stat that shook me to my core when I heard it a few years back →
Only 3% of LinkedIn users actually create content.

Yep, just three out of every hundred people are posting original thoughts, stories, or insights. The rest? Either lurking, scrolling, or ghosting their own profiles.

So why does this stat matter?  Why do I post it like a motivational quote on my office wall?

It’s because if you’re in that 3%, you’re in the home feed. In people’s notifications. On their radar.

And when you’re consistently in their line of sight, guess what? You’re also top of mind.

In other words, it has never been easier to stand out simply by showing up and sharing your perspective.

If you’ve ever wanted to be part of the 3% club, there’s no gatekeeping here. Just start creating.

AND, What Really Moves the Needle Aside From Original Content: Content, Comments, and Conversations

If content and being a 3%er is still outside of your comfort zone, there’s more good news → You don’t have to launch into longform thought-leadership posts right away. In fact, you can start small and still see big results.

Here’s how to ease into it:

  • Create one post a week—even something short and to the point.
  • Comment thoughtfully on 3–5 posts daily. (Yes, this boosts your visibility too.)
  • Connect through DMs after meaningful exchanges.

Why does this work so well? Because engagement breeds engagement.
When you show up consistently and add value, people remember—and they reciprocate.

Think of it as building your own little ecosystem of visibility, trust, and opportunities.

B2B? B2C? How Your Voice Can Differ

Whether you sell to businesses or to individuals, LinkedIn can still be a powerful place to grow. You’ll just want to tailor your approach slightly depending on your audience.

If you’re in B2B:

  • Share insights or behind-the-scenes stories from your industry.
  • Use LinkedIn newsletters or articles to dive deeper into your area of expertise.
  • Position yourself as a helpful guide—no pitch slap necessary.

If you’re in B2C:

  • Highlight how you solve everyday problems with relatable stories.
  • Bring your personality to the table—people buy from people, after all.
  • Use storytelling to connect emotionally and showcase results.

Regardless of your model, one rule remains: you only need to outshine the 97% who aren’t posting at all. And that’s very doable.
